North Bergen

North Bergen is a diverse, friendly township in Hudson County, New Jersey. Located on The Palisades, it’s just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, making it the perfect place to live for people who work or enjoy New York City. 

North Bergen is able to capture the feeling of a city and the charm of a small town simultaneously. It has an urban feel, yet is home to numerous trails, hills, waterfronts, cliffs, eclectic geography and spectacular views that encourage residents to get out into nature and enjoy spectacular New York City views. 

Even though North Bergen is close to Jersey City and Manhattan, it’s an affordable area with a small-town vibe. With a population around 60,000, it’s great for families and retirees who want a quieter home. 


Although there are no train lines in North Bergen, there are plenty of major New Jersey Transit bus routes serving North Bergen, with several stations strategically located up and down Tonnelle Avenue, Bergenline Avenue, and JFK Boulevard. Residents have easy access to regional community vans. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail at 51st Street in North Bergen travels to numerous locations in neighboring cities. From these stations, connections are available to New Jersey Transit and multiple PATH lines to get you into New York City. At the Tonnelle Avenue station, NJ Transit also operates a park-and-ride lot on Tonnelle Avenue between 49th and 51st Streets.

The North Bergen School District is a neighborhood-based school system serving students from Pre-Kindergarten to High School. The curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey State Core Curriculum Content Standards and State Assessment Program. Class offerings include all required academic subjects as well as well as physical education, art, instrumental and vocal music and research and study skills for our elementary students. We offer full academic and business courses for our high school students including a technology, art and home economics programs. The high school and elementary schools offer an array of clubs and after school activities including a wide range of sports programs
